GALLERY X ARCHIVE | interior architecture | Fotostiftung Schweiz | 2022

The Fotostiftung Schweiz is expanding its premises with a surprising architectural concept: in addition to a new exhibition space, an open archive room is being created in which collection holdings are processed, researched and digitized. During the conversion by architects Silvia Baumgartner and Simon Husslein, the two areas were connected by a floor-to-ceiling glass door, which opens up an unusual insight into the foundation's work. In this way, the public can understand how a photograph passes through various conservation and curatorial processes on its way from the archive to public presentation. Offering visitors a look behind the scenes of a foundation in this form is a novelty in the exhibition landscape.
